New York – Aug. 27, 2024 – The Agricultural Genomics Foundation (AGF), the leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the cannabis industry through research and sustainability, is proud to announce it has been awarded a New York State (NYS) cannabis research license. This license will enable AGF to conduct a comprehensive breeding program designed to revolutionize cannabis cultivation in the state and worldwide.

The AGF breeding program is rooted in cutting-edge genomics, computational biology, and bioinformatics. It aims to empower New York’s cannabis cultivators with the ability to grow plants that are not only resilient against regional challenges, such as common disease, but also boast enhanced desirable traits like increased cannabinoids and terpenes.

“This research license is a testament to AGF’s commitment to driving innovation and progress in the cannabis industry,” said Melissa Galbadores, a board member of AGF. “Our breeding program will not only benefit cultivators but also contribute to the overall growth and competitiveness of the NYS cannabis sector.”

AGF’s research initiatives extend beyond breeding. The organization is also developing benchmark datasets encompassing genetic, phenotypic, environmental, climatic, and physiological information specific to cannabis cultivated in New York. These datasets will serve as invaluable resources for researchers and industry professionals, fostering advancements in cultivation practices and breeding technologies.

In alignment with its research initiatives, AGF is developing G.R.O.W. Data & Cultivation workforce development programs, offering real-world experience in data and cultivation. These programs aim to create a pipeline of skilled professionals in analytics and agriculture, supporting the growth of the cannabis sector and preparing individuals for diverse career opportunities within and beyond the industry.

AGF is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within the cannabis industry. The organization is led by a team of experts who are passionate about creating a more sustainable, prosperous, and innovative future for cannabis in New York State and beyond.
